Controversial as it may seem, at FUTURE WOMAN we always encourage women to try and reduce or eliminate alcohol.
That’s because research is pretty convincing on the negative impact alcohol has on women’s health in particular.
- Alcohol slows down detoxification (worsening PMS).
- Alcohol contributes to weight gain and metabolic disorders.
- Alcohol disrupts our sleep and circadian rhythm.
- Alcohol damages the gut microbiome.
- Alcohol has been shown to shrink the hippocampus region of the brain that regulates our HPA axis.
- Alcohol can lead to nutrient depletion, such as zinc.
All of these factors can make your symptoms worse in perimenopause. And if you’re not in perimenopause but you have symptoms of high, unopposed estrogen or poor estrogen metabolism like PMS or heavy, painful periods you’re also more likely to feel alcohol’s negative effects.
So, ditch the alcohol this summer and enjoy these FOUR delicious, low sugar mocktail recipes instead.
